Just lost $75 to a fake wire fee scam
Got an email last week that looked exactly like my bank's, saying I needed to pay a $75 fee to receive a wire transfer. It had the logo and everything. I was in a rush and just clicked the link and paid. Called the bank today to check on the transfer and they had no record of it. The email was a total fake. I feel so dumb for not checking the sender address first. Has anyone else seen these fake fee emails getting better lately?

Yeah, they're getting really good at making those look real. I got one last month that even had a fake customer service number that picked up with a recording. It's scary how much effort they put into this stuff. Always check the actual sender email address, not just the display name. That's usually the giveaway, but you have to look close. Sorry that happened to you, it's an expensive lesson.

Ugh tell me about it. I almost fell for one pretending to be my bank last week. The email looked perfect, even had their logo. I was typing in my password before I noticed the sender was "secure-update@nationalbank-support.net" instead of their real address. Felt like a total idiot. They're getting way too good at this.

My buddy almost got taken by one that spoofed his boss's email, and @josephbutler is right about checking the actual address.
