My bank's 'free' international wire transfer cost me $75 in hidden fees

I sent $2,000 to a family member in London last month, and my bank's website said the transfer was free. The receiving bank took a $50 fee, and my bank also quietly converted the currency at a terrible rate, which cost me another $25. Are there any services you all use that are actually transparent about the total cost?

Ugh, same thing happened to me with a transfer to Canada, right?

Oh man, @dixon.spencer, I'm starting to think international transfers are just designed to test our patience. My last one felt like it needed a personal invitation from the prime minister. Glad I'm not the only one who goes through this.

I waited three weeks for a transfer to Germany last year, it was insane. The bank asked for paperwork I didn't even know existed, lol. Felt like applying for a visa just to send my own money.
