That instant transfer fee caught me off guard

I sent $200 to my landlord through Zelle yesterday and got hit with a $10 fee for instant transfer. I thought instant transfer was included with my account tier. Has anyone else gotten surprised by these fees popping up?

And same here, I was so annoyed when that $10 popped up out of nowhere. I thought my "premium" checking covered everything but nope, apparently instant transfers are extra even with the higher tier. It's like they add fees just to see if you're paying attention.

@emma_clark exactly, it's like they know exactly when to hit you with that stuff. I swear my bank must have a department dedicated to finding new ways to charge me for things I thought were already included. Premium checking, basic checking, whatever tier you're on, they always find a loophole. Makes me wonder if I should just go back to hiding cash in a mattress at this point.

Mattress money? Good luck with that. Unless you've got a fireproof safe bolted to the floor, you're one house fire or burglary away from losing everything. Banks are a pain with their fees but at least your cash is insured up to 250k. People love to complain about the little charges but forget the FDIC exists because banks used to fail all the time and people lost their whole savings. A ten dollar fee beats waking up to an empty yard where you buried your emergency fund.
