Had a BBQ judge tell me my brisket was too salty 3 years ago

I was cooking for a small competition in Austin and a judge wrote "salt bomb" on my card. At first I was mad but I looked back at my rub recipe and realized I was adding salt to everything without thinking. I cut the salt in my rub by half and started measuring instead of eyeballing. Has anyone else had a judge's comment totally change how they season their meat?

Did you ever go back to that judge and force feed them a less salty brisket just to prove a point? I had the same thing happen with a pork butt, and now I weigh my salt like it's illegal contraband. That judge probably saved me from giving everyone high blood pressure at family cookouts.

Man, you're acting like the judge shot your dog. It's just barbecue, not a life or death culinary showdown.

Gasped out loud when I read you actually went back to the judge. That takes some nerve. I just grumbled about my overcooked ribs for a week and never ate at that place again. Did you at least get a free side or something for your trouble?
