Update: My pellet smoker's auger jammed solid during a 14 hour cook last weekend.

I had to pull the whole thing apart in my driveway at 2 AM, and now I'm thinking maybe the push for 'set it and forget it' tech in BBQ is just making us less able to handle a basic problem when the power goes out or a part fails.

Yeah that "set it and forget it" push. @the_matthew is right. It makes you forget how to actually cook. My old stick burner never quit. You learn the fire, you fix the fire. Now it's just a computer error code and a dead cook.

That "set it and forget it" push is real. My buddy had his pellet grill just die mid-smoke on a holiday. He ended up finishing the brisket in his oven, but the whole point of having the fancy rig was gone. Felt like the tech just added another thing that could break.

Honestly @the_matthew, I've found the tech makes smoking way more reliable for me.
