Rant: Got roasted by a pro photographer for my hashtag strategy.
Some guy named Dave in a Facebook group for local creators near Austin told me my 30 hashtag mess was just spam. He said I should only use 5 to 8 targeted ones like #AustinFoodie instead of #love or #instagood. I cut it down and my engagement actually jumped 20 percent in two days. Anybody else get schooled by a stranger and find out they were right?

@kim819 I cut my hashtags from 30 down to about 5 and it was like my posts finally started breathing. Honestly @johnson.jason might be right that they don't make a huge difference, but for me it was like taking a heavy backpack off after a long hike. My engagement actually went up slightly, though that could just be luck or the algorithm doing its weird dance. Maybe I just needed to stop shouting into the void with a dozen tags attached.

Not really buying that hashtags make that big a difference either way.
