Spent a year trying to make a viral video about my dog and it was all wrong

I kept filming these long, perfect clips of my dog doing tricks in my backyard in Austin. Then I saw a video of a random guy's dog just falling asleep on a pizza box get 2 million views in a week. The guy just filmed it on his phone, vertical, no edits. I was trying so hard to make content instead of just catching a real moment. How do you even start looking for those moments without forcing it?

Yeah, I get that. My kid was trying to make this perfect clay sculpture for school and got so stressed. Then she just left a lump of it on the table and our cat sat on it, left these perfect paw prints. She took a picture of that instead. Sometimes you just have to put the camera down and wait.

Honestly that whole "just wait for it" advice never worked for me lol. You end up with hours of boring footage and still miss the good stuff. Gotta create the chance for something funny to happen, like bringing the pizza box into the room yourself. Setting up a loose situation is way better than hoping your dog does something random while you're not looking.

Honestly, I went through the same thing with my cat. I mean, I stopped trying to stage anything and just started leaving my phone on the coffee table more often, video ready to go. You kinda have to train yourself to notice the weird little stuff, like when your dog sighs at a squirrel it can't reach. It's all about having the camera close but not in your hand, idk. The second you start looking for a moment, you miss it.
