Got yelled at by a librarian for talking during a show at the library movie night and it threw me off
I was at the downtown library's weekly binge watch night last Tuesday, chatting with my buddy about the plot twist in the show we were watching, and the librarian came over and told us to be quiet or leave. It felt weird because everyone was eating popcorn and making noise, but I guess they wanted it silent like a regular library. Has anyone else had a library event where they cracked down on talking like that?

Last summer at the Central library movie night they shushed me for laughing too loud during a comedy scene lol. I get it's a library but they literally had a sign saying "enjoy the show" with popcorn buckets and everything. The whole vibe was confusing because people were crinkling snack bags and whispering about the movie the whole time. It makes you feel like you're in trouble in school again you know? I think libraries need to figure out if they want events to be social or silent because you can't have both.

Our library had a similar issue with their "silent book club" but then they'd play soft jazz music in the background. Like pick a lane, right? Did the sign say anything about keeping it down at all?

Not really sure why people get so worked up about getting shushed honestly. It's a library, they have rules, it's not that deep. Kinda funny how everyone acts like it's a huge injustice when really you just had to be quiet for a minute. Libraries have been changing their vibe for years and sometimes the messages get crossed, but it's not the end of the world. Maybe just laugh it off and move on.
