Book club nearly fell apart over a single character's name pronunciation

We spent a full 45 minutes arguing whether the main character in our last novel was named 'Jay-la' or 'Jai-la' based on one sentence in chapter 3. Nobody even bothered to look up the author's interview where she says it clearly. Has anyone else had a dumb detail derail an entire meeting like that?

Did @dakotawood's audiobook trick end the fight or just start a new one about the narrator's accent?

That "Jay-la or Jai-la" thing sounds exhausting. We had a similar mess with a character name until I just pulled up the audiobook sample on my phone and let everyone hear it. Ended the debate in about 10 seconds.
