Heard a guy at the hardware store say 'measure twice, cut once' and it hit me different

Was grabbing some 2x4s at the Lowe's on 405 and this older guy was telling his kid to measure twice before he cuts. I've heard that a million times but I just botched a project last weekend because I got in a hurry and cut a board 3 inches too short. Stood there for a second thinking about how that simple rule would've saved me a trip back and $14 in lumber. Has anyone else had a moment where an old saying finally clicked after messing up?

Alex nailed it with "that's called being an adult." People want to turn every little lesson into some kind of revelation when really it's just life smacking you in the face and you finally paying attention. You hit the board too short, you learned, now you measure twice like the rest of us who learned the hard way.

Oh come on, it's not that deep. You learned to measure twice because you wasted some lumber, that's called being an adult. Maybe it's just me but the whole "hit me different" thing feels like people trying to make everyday wisdom sound profound. You messed up, you learned, move on. The old guy at Lowe's is probably just tired of his kids making the same mistakes he did.
