Found out my local library card gets me free museum passes

I was looking for cheap things to do in Portland (you know, for a weekend trip) and saw a tiny note on the city's visitor site about library passes. Turns out my home library card (from a totally different county) still gets me free entry to three big museums there through a partnership program. Has anyone else used a library system for travel perks like this?

That library card trick is so smart. I see this a lot now, where the stuff you already pay for with taxes has these hidden benefits. My trash service includes a free bulky item pickup each year, and my water bill has a discount for low flow toilets. It's like they bury the good stuff in the fine print.

Wait, so we should just call and ask like piperschmidt's friend did?

My buddy found out his town gives out free compost bins if you ask at the public works office. He'd been buying bags of the stuff for years. They also have a tool library he never knew about, just needed a water bill for proof of address. He felt pretty silly after that.
