I thought those cheap overnight buses in Vietnam were a scam, but they saved me a ton.
I was sure the $12 sleeper bus from Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City would be awful, but it was clean, had a flat bed, and saved me a hotel night. The company, The Sinh Tourist, was totally legit and on time. Has anyone else had a good surprise with a super cheap transport option in Asia?

Totally agree about those overnight buses not being a scam! My friend had a similar shock with a super cheap local train in Sri Lanka. She paid like five bucks for a "second class" ticket expecting a rough ride, but it was this gorgeous old colonial era train with huge open windows going through the tea country. She said it was the best part of her trip and she had it almost to herself.

Yeah the "second class" thing is so real. I saw a travel blog ages ago talking about that exact Sri Lanka train ride, how the cheap seats are the ones with the good windows you can actually lean out of. The fancy AC cars are sealed shut, so you miss the whole point. Sometimes the budget option is the better experience.
