That $30 'skip the line' pass in Rome was the worst travel spend ever

Bought it for the Colosseum thinking it would save a full afternoon. The 'express' line was just as packed as the regular one, maybe even slower because they kept checking everyone's fancy tickets. We waited over an hour anyway and I felt like a total sucker. Anyone have a real trick for avoiding those insane queues without getting scammed?

Had a totally different experience last spring. Booked the official "Full Experience" ticket online for a set entry time. Walked right past the general line, got checked in under five minutes. The key was picking the first slot after they opened.

Wait, did you see that article about how the morning slots are way less crowded? It said something like the first hour after opening has like 60% fewer people. Makes total sense, everyone tries to sleep in on vacation.

Wait, only 60% fewer people? That seems way too low for the first hour! I was at a theme park last month and the first slot felt like a ghost town. We walked onto three big rides before 10 AM. @caleb_ross12 is totally right about booking that official early slot, it's a game changer. If the regular line already has a hundred people, how is that considered "less crowded"? The math on that article feels off.
