My fridge died and I didn't panic for once
Last Tuesday the compressor on my old Whirlpool went out in the middle of a heatwave in Houston, but instead of running to buy a new one on credit I actually had $850 set aside in my emergency fund from six months of small wins. Has anyone else had a big appliance fail and realized your budgeting habit finally paid off?

Honestly paid off, man. Good for you. I would've been standing in my kitchen staring at the warm fridge like a mannequin for an hour before remembering I have zero savings. Then I'd probably call my mom to borrow the money and get the lecture of a lifetime. Your emergency fund just paid for itself in dignity and probably a few hundred bucks of spoiled food you didn't have to trash. That's a huge win.

@jordanc32 that "dignity" part is real. I learned the hard way and now stash small bills in a jar.

Started doing the same after my fridge died last summer. Threw a twenty in a jar every time I got change, and it added up way faster than I expected. Ended up with enough to cover the repair without touching my main savings, which felt pretty good.
