Used to throw away half my grocery budget on takeout
Five years ago I was spending like $400 a month on DoorDash. Every night. Didn't even think about it. Then I sat down and did the math one January. Almost had a heart attack. Now I meal prep every Sunday. Spend maybe $150 a week on groceries. Saved enough in one year to pay off my truck. Anyone else have that moment where you actually looked at your food spending and wanted to cry?

Buddy of mine did that and paid for a whole vacation.

Yeah but that's like saying one lucky lottery winner proves it's a good investment. Most people who try that end up deeper in debt with nothing to show for it but a maxed out card. Unless you're incredibly lucky or have a solid repayment plan already set up, the interest will eat you alive before you ever see a vacation.

Derek's buddy is the exception not the rule lol. The interest on a maxed out card these days is like 25% or more so unless you can flip that vacation debt in a month you're basically paying double the price. Not to mention people forget the balance transfer fees are usually like 3-5% upfront which eats into any savings too. Plus most cards only give you 0% for 12-15 months max then the hammer drops. Seen way too many people on the personal finance subs crying about their card being at 29% APR with a $400 minimum payment they can't afford.
