My accountant told me to stop paying for QuickBooks and use spreadsheets instead

Last year I was spending $35 a month on QuickBooks and my accountant kept saying I was wasting money. I thought he was just old school and didn't get modern tools. But after 6 months of trying his spreadsheet method, I actually saved $210 and my books are cleaner. The trick was he helped me set up a template with formulas that auto-calculate everything. Has anyone else switched back to something simpler and saved money?

The part about your accountant setting up a template with formulas is key. I went through almost the same thing last year with my books. My tax guy showed me how to build a simple spreadsheet with dropdown lists for categories and conditional formatting that flags when something doesn't add up. It took me a weekend to get it right but now I don't miss QuickBooks at all. The big savings for me was not just the monthly fee but also not having to deal with their updates breaking my workflow every few months. One tip though, make sure you keep a backup of your spreadsheet on cloud storage or a second drive.

@ellis.mia same thing happened to my buddy Dave, his accountant set him up with a spreadsheet and he's never looked back.
