Showerthought: The drive-through coffee shop near me charges $6.50 for a latte now

I was in Portland last week grabbing a coffee before my shift and noticed the same basic latte I used to get for $4.50 is now $6.50... that's almost 45% more in like 3 years. The line was still wrapped around the building though, so people are clearly okay with it. Is this just inflation hitting everything or are we all ignoring the price creep because we want our morning fix?

My buddy Mark was visiting from Chicago last fall and he stopped at the same coffee chain he always goes to back home. He texted me a photo of the menu and said their small latte was $7.25 now in his neighborhood. He said the cashier told him they've raised prices four times since 2021. Even McDonald's coffee near his apartment is up to like $3.50 for just a regular cup.

People have been saying coffee is getting too expensive for years now, but the reality is most of us just shrug and pay it. The supply chain for coffee beans has been a mess since the shipping crisis a couple years back, plus labor costs went up everywhere - the baristas have to make a living wage too.
