Tried using 'main character energy' at a coffee shop and it backfired

I walked into my usual spot in Portland acting super confident, but the barista just looked confused and asked if I was okay. Now I think that phrase only works if you're actually filming a movie. Has anyone else had a slang term totally flop in real life?

Honestly my Portland barista loved when I said "main character energy" last week, unlike @paul_patel40's grandma with "mid".

My cousin tried to call something "mid" at a family dinner last year. He said the pie was mid. My grandma just got real quiet and asked if that meant it was middle of the road. We had to explain it for ten minutes and the whole vibe was gone. Sometimes that internet talk just doesn't translate to regular people at all.

So did your cousin ever recover from that? Like does he still use "mid" around family or did grandma's quiet disappointment kill the slang for good.

Grandma's quiet disappointment is a powerful thing.
