I finally tried a different way to clamp long miters and it actually worked
I was building a 7-foot long display case last month and the long miter joints on the frame kept slipping out of alignment, even with three pipe clamps. I saw a tip online about using blue painter's tape as a temporary strap. I ran a strip of tape along the joint line before applying the clamps, just to hold everything in place. It took me maybe two extra minutes to set up. The tape kept the pieces from sliding sideways when I tightened the clamps, and the glue-up was perfect. Has anyone else found a simple trick like this for tricky glue-ups?

You used blue painter's tape on a seven foot miter and it actually held. I would have bet money that tape would just stretch and let everything slide. I always thought you needed those fancy strap clamps for something that long. I guess the tape is just there to stop the initial shift, not to provide the clamping force. That's a really clever way to think about it.

Always thought tape was useless for big cuts until seeing this.
