My new tent's rainfly ripped open during a storm in the Adirondacks because the guyline tensioners were junk plastic.

I had to patch the 8-inch tear with a gear repair kit and tie off to a tree with paracord, so check those little parts before you trust them in bad weather, and has anyone else had a tent fail because of a cheap tensioner?

Mine did the same thing, so I just replaced them all with cord locks.

Honestly, that sounds like a setup problem more than a gear problem. Those plastic tensioners are fine if you don't crank them down like you're trying to win a tug-of-war. Saw a guy at a campground once snap one because he over-tightened every line before a calm night. The wind just needs a little give, or something has to rip. Your paracord fix was smart, but maybe the fly was drum-tight.

Yeah, @paige86 is right about the tug-of-war champs. Some folks treat tent lines like they're tying down a jet. A little slack lets the whole thing breathe and saves your gear.
