Showerthought: a stubborn creosote buildup in a 1920s flue made me switch my brush technique

I used to just push straight up and down, but after that job in the old Craftsman on Maple Street, I started adding a slow twist on the pull-down. Anyone else have a specific move for really old, narrow chimneys?

That "slow twist" thing sounds like way too much effort for a simple job.

That "slow twist on the pull-down" you mentioned... I used to think it was overkill.

You ever try that twist but also give the rod a little side-to-side wiggle as you go? I found on those super narrow old flues, it helps knock loose the stuff that's really baked on in the corners.
