My neighbor's EV caught fire and I learned about lithium battery disposal
Last Tuesday, my neighbor's electric car battery caught fire in his garage. The fire department showed up with this massive containment bucket and it took them 4 hours to cool it down. Has anyone else dealt with battery disposal costs in their area?
Wow, that sounds like a nightmare to deal with. I had a similar scare with a dead laptop battery last year. Called the city's hazardous waste hotline and they told me to bag it up and bring it to a special drop-off at the recycling center. Cost me nothing but a Saturday morning drive. Really glad I didn't just throw it in the trash. Your neighbor's situation makes me want to double check where the closest battery disposal spot is again.
Man that's terrifying, I can't imagine waking up to something like that in your own garage. It really makes you wonder how many people properly recycle those things before they become a problem.
