My town's old recycling bins versus the new ones with the RFID tags

We had those basic blue bins for years. People just threw anything in there. Got a letter saying our whole street's pickup got rejected last month. Now we have the tagged bins from RecycleSmart. They weigh them and send a report. Our contamination rate dropped from like 40% to under 10% in three months. Anyone else's city try this tracking system?

That tracking stuff feels like a step too far. Getting a report on your trash is just weird and kind of invasive. The old system worked fine if people just learned the rules.

It's just more of that constant data collection we see everywhere now.

Wait, is the report actually about your specific trash? I always thought it was just a general note on the whole building's pickup, @bettywood. Like if the truck couldn't get to the bins because someone parked in front of them, or if there was a ton of stuff that shouldn't have been put out. The old system did work, but people never really learned the rules, so now everyone gets a note. It's more about the truck crew reporting a problem spot than someone looking in your bin.
