Had to get a weird aluminum part out yesterday and my shop vac hose was just a little too short to reach

Taped a plastic grocery bag over the spindle and let the chips collect right there, worked like a charm. Anyone else ever rig up something that dumb that actually saved the day?

You're right about the dumbest solutions being the best. It reminds me that the goal is just to get the job done, not to have the perfect tool. A lot of shop time is just clever problem solving with whatever's on hand.

Been there! The bag trick is genius for a quick fix. Sometimes the dumbest solutions are the best ones.

Honestly I used to be such a stickler for using the exact right tool for everything. But seeing stuff like the bag trick, I mean it just works. It really changed my mind about what being good at this stuff means. Now I get that the real skill is just making it happen with whatever junk is on the bench.
