Finally figured out why my pour overs were taking 6 minutes

I kept getting bitter, slow draining cups and thought it was my grinder or water temp. Turns out I was pouring way too much water at once and clogging the filter with fines. Has anyone else had luck switching to pulse pouring to fix their brew times?

You mentioned "clogging the filter with fines" and that was my guess too. I started doing this thing where I pour super slow on the first bloom, like just a gentle spiral for 45 seconds, and then split the remainder into like 4-5 small pulses. It made a bigger difference than changing my grind size ever did. The key for me was keeping the water level low enough that it never covers the top of the coffee bed completely.

Wait, am I supposed to be patient AND have good pouring skills? (I've been relying on my grinder to bail me out of my shaky hands for years, lol.)
