Learning the Hard Way About Stale Coffee

I always got pre-ground coffee because it was easy. One time, my coffee had no flavor at all. I found out the coffee was old from sitting too long. Now I buy whole beans and grind them myself for a better cup.

Totally get that. It's like a bunch of pantry staples lose their magic if they're not fresh, my dried herbs tasted like nothing until I bought them whole. Same with nuts, they go rancid so fast in the bag but last ages in the shell. You start to see how cutting corners on freshness just makes everything taste dull.

Exactly, it turns into this whole ripple effect. Ground spices like cinnamon or cumin fade to dust flavor in months, but the whole seeds or sticks stay potent for years. Same with coffee beans versus pre-ground, which starts tasting flat almost right away. Once you notice, you stop buying the convenient prepped stuff and your cooking actually tastes like something again.

Where does flour fit into this, @the_kevin, since it goes stale fast too?
