Why does nobody talk about how the 'collector' mindset can ruin the fun?
Last week at the Portland comic shop, I saw a guy refuse to buy a great issue because the cover had a tiny crease. Three years ago, I would have done the same, but now I just buy what I enjoy reading. Does anyone else feel the grading obsession has gone too far?

That Portland story hits home. I used to pass on books with minor damage too. What finally made you decide to just buy for the story instead of the grade?

Realized I was collecting perfect covers instead of good stories.

Ever think about how this changes what you even look for at a store? I used to scan shelves for the best shape, like @caleb_ross12 said, but now I hunt for weird titles or authors I've never heard of. The cover could be bent, but if the summary on the flap is wild, I buy it.
