Appreciation post: That one salvage job where the water was so clear we could see the wreck from the surface
We pulled a 12-ton crane section off the bottom of Lake Michigan last Thursday, and working in that visibility with zero current felt like cheating after years of fighting murk and surge.

My buddy had a job like that once, said it felt weird after so many years of basically working blind. I mean, he could just point at stuff from the boat. Idk, maybe it's just me but that kind of luck never lasts.

Oh man, my cousin had a gig like that. It all fell apart when the new manager actually checked the numbers.

Sounds like a classic case of "if it ain't broke, don't look at the spreadsheet." My old boss ran his whole shipping department on guesswork and a prayer for years. The new guy came in, asked for one inventory report, and the whole house of cards just folded. Suddenly we needed actual counts for things, it was a mess.
