My supervisor watched me tie off for 10 minutes and just said 'quit showing off'
I was using a fancy double figure eight with a backup knot and he told me to just use a clove hitch and a half hitch like everyone else. Been doing it that way for 6 months now and it's way faster plus never had an issue. Any of you guys get called out for overcomplicating deck stuff?

Quit showing off"? That's harsh. Did he give you any actual reason besides just saying it's extra?

10 minutes just to tie off? I would've gotten bored watching too lol. @kim693 I think the extra backup was probably fine but 10 mins is wild for any knot, even a fancy one. Speed matters more than flash on deck, honestly.

omg @alexc93 that reminds me of what happened to my buddy mark last season. he was bragging about this super tight figure eight knot he spent like 8 minutes perfecting on the dock, looked real pretty and everything. first big swell hit and that thing locked up so bad he had to cut the line with a knife to get the anchor loose. literally everyone just stood there watching him fight with it for 5 more minutes before someone tossed him a knife. speed matters way more than a fancy finish when you're on the water, nobody's judging your knotwork in a photo op.
