Heard a guy at the supply yard in Tacoma say he's been using a 5 gallon bucket of vinegar to clean his tools for years, never buys the branded stuff.

Sounds like a cheap way to get the job done. Vinegar works fine for light rust and general grime. Not sure it's worth worrying about if it works for him.

Cheap ways to get the job done reminds me of my uncle using cola to clean his old truck battery terminals. He swore by it for years, even though it left this sticky film everywhere. We'd always find ants all over his engine bay in the summer.

But what about the sticky mess it leaves behind?
