PSA: That $35 AI story generator was a complete waste of my cash

I bought one of those AI story generator apps last month for $35 thinking it would help me break through writer's block. All it did was spit out weird sentences like 'the purple sky danced with angry potatoes' no matter what prompt I gave it. I tried tweaking the settings and feeding it better examples, but after 3 hours of messing around I got nothing usable. Has anyone else fallen for one of these tools and regretted it, or am I the only one who lost money on a glitchy program?

wait wait, $35?? i think i got the same one for $8 on sale and still felt ripped off. the angry potatoes thing is exactly the kind of garbage mine spits out too - i fed it a prompt about a detective solving a murder and got back a story about a sentient fridge falling in love with a toaster. tried using it for a d&d campaign and the npc dialogue was literally incomprehensible. at least yours gave you something vaguely funny, mine just broke every grammar rule in the book and called it a day.

i gotta say i actually love my ai story generator and use it all the time. the trick is to feed it really detailed prompts and not expect it to think like a human writer. the purple sky dancing with angry potatoes thing sounds hilarious actually and could be a great starting point for a surreal story if you lean into it instead of fighting it. you probably spent too much time trying to make it write exactly what you wanted when you should have just let it surprise you and then trimmed the weird parts. its not a magic fix for writer's block its more like a weird friend who gives you crazy ideas that you have to sort through yourself.

Gotta disagree on one thing though - feeding it really detailed prompts is actually part of the problem. I get way better results when I give it just a few key words and let it run wild. Too many details and it starts doing that weird mashup thing where it tries to please every single instruction at once.
