I finally watched the deleted opening for Event Horizon and man...
I stumbled across a 12 minute alternate opening for Event Horizon on YouTube last night. It shows the crew finding the ship way earlier and it totally changes the vibe of the movie. The theatrical cut just jumps straight into the horror, but this version builds this slow dread that I wish they kept. Has anyone else seen a deleted scene that completely shifts how you see the whole film?

Yeah, that opening scene really reframes the whole movie as a slow burn tragedy instead of just a shock fest. The theatrical cut works fine as a horror flick but that alternate version makes the crew feel way more like actual people you're gonna watch fall apart. Always felt like Event Horizon could've been a classic instead of just a cult hit if they'd kept that buildup.

Right, like I need another reason to cry during movies, I already lose it during the Lego Movie. That opening really does turn the whole thing into a slow motion car crash where you're just watching these poor souls walk right into it. Makes the scene where they go looking for the missing engineer hit way harder because you've actually seen them eating breakfast together and acting like normal coworkers. My therapist would probably say I have a problem getting attached to fictional crews that are doomed, but whatever lol.

Started watching that alternate opening and it totally changed how I see the whole movie. The part where you see the crew just hanging out, joking around, made the later horror scenes hit way different. Made me feel like I actually lost someone instead of just watching a scary movie. Still wish they kept that slow burn buildup though.
