My uncle told me to always use a torque wrench on injector hold-down bolts, even the small ones.

He said a guy in his old shop in Tacoma snapped one off in a 6.7 Powerstroke head by just going by feel. I finally bought a good 1/4 inch drive torque wrench and started doing it right. Has anyone else had a bolt let go on them from over-tightening?

What size was the bolt that snapped?

My old foreman in Bakersfield ran a shop for thirty years. He said he never used a torque wrench on those small bolts, just a calibrated hand. Never had one come back.

My uncle's shop in Fresno had a guy like that, until a head bolt sheared off. I mean, maybe it works until it doesn't, you know? It just seems like an unnecessary risk to skip the tool.
