Why does nobody talk about using grayscale to plan digital paintings?

I started my last piece in black and white before adding color. It helped me focus on values without getting distracted. Have you tried this method for your art?

Honestly @the_jana, half my favorite painters work that way too.

That bit about favorite painters working that way is funny. My old art school was mostly monochrome studies for the first year, brown and gray everything. It did help, but man, I missed color.
