Spent $400 on a portable monitor and it's been a lifesaver in cafe's...
Was working from a coffee shop in Chiang Mai last month and my laptop screen just felt way too cramped for coding. Picked up a 15 inch USB-C monitor for around $400 and now I can actually spread out my work without needing a full desk setup. The glare is a bit annoying sometimes but it fits in my backpack easily. Has anyone else found a good solution for working in noisy places?

Oh man, I totally get this... I grabbed a similar 15 inch USB-C monitor a few months back for the same reason. My laptop screen always felt like I was squinting at code in a phone booth, and now I can actually have my editor and a browser side by side without going crazy. The glare thing is real though, I usually try to sit with my back to the window or find a darker corner in the cafe to cut down on it. It's crazy how much more productive I feel when I can actually see what I'm working on...

Totally agree with you on the productivity boost, having that extra screen real estate is a GAME CHANGER for coding. I have the same problem with glare too, and I found one of those matte screen protectors helped a ton without making it too dim. Honestly, I don't know how I survived before with just one tiny laptop screen.

It's funny how something as simple as an extra screen can change your whole workflow, right? @david37, I'm glad you found a setup that works for you. I mean, it's like we all just accept this tiny laptop screen as the norm, and then you get one bigger monitor and suddenly realize you were basically working through a keyhole the whole time. It's not just about coding either, it's like that same pattern with everything - we get used to cramped spaces or bad lighting or tiny fonts and just assume that's how it has to be until we finally try something different. The glare battle is a whole other thing though, I swear some cafes are designed to be impossible to work in with that afternoon sun coming in. Makes you wonder how many other "little" annoyances we just put up with without thinking to fix them.
