Reading an old dredge manual from the 70s, I found out the original Erie Canal dredges could only move about 5 cubic yards an hour.

Found that stat in a library archive in Buffalo, and it makes me wonder how much sediment you guys have moved in a single shift with modern gear.

Clearing over 500 yards in a shift is a serious amount of dirt. I can feel that in my back just thinking about it. Some days you get in that groove and the yardage just piles up, but it's never easy work. Makes those old canal guys seem almost lucky with their 5 yards an hour.

My buddy once pulled a double, nearly 600 yards.
