Overheard a kid call drywall mud 'spackle' and it got me thinking about how this trade is changing

My foreman had to correct him on the job last Tuesday, but the kid didn't even know why it mattered, and it made me wonder how many shortcuts the new guys are picking up from YouTube instead of from someone who's been hanging board for 25 years, anyone else seeing this on their crews?

Wait, isn't spackle actually a different product than drywall mud though? Spackle is that lightweight stuff for small holes and mud is the heavy compound for taping and bedding, and I've seen guys get in trouble using the wrong one on bigger jobs. No disrespect to @felixlee for learning from the old timers, but mixing your own mud is how you learn the difference between a patch and a full board job, and that's something YouTube tutorials never show you.

Started mixing my own mud after watching old timers at my first job.

Started mixing my own mud" - is it really that deep though? Like yeah it's a skill but people act like they're curing cancer instead of slapping goop on a wall.
