That moment a plumber in Leduc showed me why my basement drain kept backing up

I had this plumber out to my place in Leduc last spring because my basement floor drain was slow. He asked if I ever cleaned the trap, and I said sure, I pour some stuff down it. He just laughed and stuck his phone down with a camera, and there was a whole mess of roots and sediment about 3 feet in. Turns out, a 5 minute job with a snake twice a year would have saved me the $250 service call. Anyone else find out they've been neglecting simple maintenance for years?

Same thing happened with my kitchen sink, felt like such an idiot for not checking sooner.

My neighbor spent three hours under his sink with a wrench trying to move some pipes around... turns out the issue was just a bit of soap scum buildup in the drain. People get so dramatic about plumbing problems like it's some big failure of their whole life. You fixed the clog, that's what matters. I swear half the stuff we worry about falls in the "it's not that deep" category. Save the self loathing for something that actually matters, like burning dinner or forgetting someone's birthday.

Oh come on @perry.evan, missing a clog ain't exactly rocket science, is it? It's just a sink, not a life or death situation.
