Hot take: that viral "quiet quitting" mindset is already dying off at my job
Last month my coworker Jenna tried to sell me on the whole quiet quitting thing. She said she just does the bare minimum and stops caring. I told her that might work at a bigger place but we only got 12 people in our office. Two weeks later our manager pulled her aside and gave her a written warning for not meeting deadlines. Now she's back to busting her butt like before. Has anyone else seen this trend actually backfire fast in a small team?

I mean, I kind of had the same thing happen at my last job. We had maybe 15 people in the office, and I tried to just do the minimum for a few weeks. But it's so obvious when you're part of a small team because everyone sees everything. My boss just started giving me the worst shifts and all the boring projects until I went back to normal. So yeah, that whole mindset only works if nobody's watching.

and on top of that, nobody talks about how quiet quitting messes with your own head. I mean, when you're in a tiny office of 12 people, you can't just shut off your brain and not care. You still have to sit next to Jenna every day and watch her get called out. It makes the whole vibe awkward and stressful for everyone, not just the person doing it. Plus if you're the one pulling back, you end up lying to yourself about not caring when you actually do, and that just eats at you. So yeah, quiet quitting in a small team isn't just about getting caught, it's about how it makes you feel crummy inside too.
