My buddy the SEO consultant told me to stop writing 2000 word blog posts and go with 500 words instead
He said Google cares more about matching search intent than word count, so I tested it on my small ecommerce site for 3 months and my organic traffic jumped 40% after I cut all my product descriptions in half, has anyone else seen better results from shorter content?

My own site saw the same thing when I trimmed my category pages from 300 words down to about 120. I was a big believer in long content for years, thought Google needed all those extra words to rank. But after watching visits to those pages climb by over 30% in two months, I had to admit I was wrong. It really does come down to whether you answer the question fast or not.
