My cousin swore the '5 second rule' applies to carpet too
He dropped a whole slice of pizza on my living room rug, picked it up, and ate it while counting out loud. I told him that's not how science works but he said the carpet fibers made it 'cleaner than tile.' Has anyone else had to argue about food safety with a grown adult?

Gotta admit I feel for you. Having to argue basic germ theory with a grown man over a slice of pizza is a special kind of frustrating.

That's rough. Dropping food on carpet and eating it feels like a bigger gamble than tile or hardwood. Tile is easier to spot a stray hair on before it's too late, carpet just hides everything until it's in your mouth. Your cousin might need to watch an episode or two of a show about germs for a reality check.
