Appreciation post: Figuring out how to grade a pattern for a custom corset took me a full 14 hours
I was scaling a 1920s-inspired design up two sizes and the math for the curved seams just would not line up until I found a blog post from a costumer in Portland that explained the pivot method with a clear diagram.

Oh wow, that's some serious dedication. I'd have given up after 14 minutes, not 14 hours. Glad you found that blog post to crack the code.

Nah, 14 hours sounds about right to me actually. Grading isn't just scaling up numbers, it's about understanding how the body changes at different sizes. You cant just multiply every seam by 1.2 and call it done. The curved seams on a 1920s corset are tricky because theyre doing all the shaping work. Ive spent entire weekends trying to get a single princess seam to hang right on a size 16 after working from a size 8 pattern. Finding that Portland blog would have saved me a lot of trial and error too.

Fourteen hours on grading seems a bit much (no offense to kelly_west74's 14-minute limit). That Portland blog must have been a real lifesaver.
