Update: I was sure my friend's kombucha scoby from Seattle was a goner after it sank

For a whole week, the thing just sat at the bottom of the jar and I was ready to toss it, convinced it was dead. Then I read that a new pellicle was forming on top, which is normal, and sure enough after about 10 days a fresh layer grew and the brew turned out fine. Has anyone else had a scoby do the dive and still come back strong?

Man, my scoby did that and I was so sure I killed it. I gave it a proper funeral in my head and everything. It's like they wait until you've fully given up hope before they decide to show off. Makes my own lazy weekends look pretty productive by comparison.

Is it still a scoby if it's just sulking at the bottom of the jar? Mine did the same thing last year and I gave it a full eulogy before it decided to come back. I guess they just need a little quiet time to think about their life choices. Makes me feel a bit better about my own unproductive phases.

Have you tried giving the jar a gentle swirl? Sometimes they just need a little nudge to get going again. Honestly mine does this when it's too cold or needs fresh tea.
