Why does nobody talk about the cost of a good respirator?

I dropped $80 on a 3M half-face with P100 filters after a bad reaction to some lacquer fumes, and it's the best money I've spent this year. What other safety gear is actually worth the price tag?

For real, good ear pro is a game changer. I used to get headaches after mowing the lawn, but decent muffs made it a non-issue. It's one of those things you don't miss until you try it.
