That $90 'premium' compost tumbler I bought last spring? Total junk after two months.
The plastic cracked on the second turn and now I'm back to just using a pile in the corner, has anyone else had better luck with the metal barrel style ones?

Right, because paying extra for something that breaks when you look at it is exactly what we all needed. Guess the cardboard box from my last amazon delivery is already outlasting that thing.

Cardboard box from my last Amazon delivery" - those are pretty good quality boxes actually.

Jumped right into the metal barrel style myself after my plastic one fell apart lol. @bettywood is right though, that cardboard box from amazon probably has more structural integrity than those overpriced tumblers. I got a galvanized steel one off Craigslist for like 30 bucks and it's been solid for two years now. The plastic stuff just can't handle the sun and the weight of wet compost, no surprise it cracked.
