The day I caught myself buying bulk avocados for 3 years

I used to grab those big bags of avocados from Costco every week thinking I was saving money. Last month my friend Sarah pointed out I was throwing away about 4 of them per bag because they all ripened at the same time. That added up to like $12 a week just in wasted avocados. So I started buying individual ones at the local grocery store for 89 cents each instead. Now I just grab 2 or 3 at a time and actually eat them all. Anyone else ever fall for the bulk buying trap with fresh stuff?

And the worst part is you end up eating mushy avocado toast for four days straight trying to use them all up.

I had this same problem but with bananas from Sam's Club a few years back. I bought a 5 pound bag thinking it was a steal for $2.50, but by day 3 I had like 14 brown bananas sitting on my counter. My roommate literally taped a note to the fridge that said "no more bananas unless you're feeding a small army" lol. I ended up freezing half of them but then I had frozen bananas taking up space in my freezer for like 8 months. Now I just buy 3 loose bananas at a time from the corner bodega and actually finish them before they go bad. The bulk game is just not worth it for stuff that rots fast, learned that lesson the hard way.

Gasped reading @jamesfox's 14 banana situation. That's a nightmare I'd never recover from.
