Honestly, a vendor meeting in Phoenix last month changed how I handle quotes

Tbh, I used to just give a flat rate for materials. Watching their rep break down every single cost, right down to the adhesive per square foot, showed me exactly where my own estimates were too vague. Has anyone else switched to a super detailed line-item quote and had clients push back less?

Oh that "break down every single cost" thing is a game changer. I started doing line item quotes for a big repair job last year, listing stuff like individual fixture costs and disposal fees. The client actually thanked me for the clarity and signed off immediately, no haggling at all. It feels like more work upfront but it saves so much time arguing later. People just trust a detailed list more than a round number.

Totally get that, some folks just latch onto the small stuff.

My last detailed quote had a client fixate on a $15 disposal fee for three hours. Sometimes that level of detail just gives people something small to fight over. I've found a clear total with a short list of big parts works better for me. It keeps the talk on the whole job, not the tiny stuff.
