My brand new 3/4 inch router bit chipped on some reclaimed oak last Tuesday and I had to hand-plane the whole edge profile to finish the job.

Has anyone else had a specific tool fail right at the worst moment, and what's your go-to backup plan when the power tools let you down?

Heard about my buddy's table saw motor burning out halfway through cutting plywood for a custom cabinet job. Honestly, he had to finish every single rip cut with a handsaw, took him like three extra hours. Tbh his backup plan now is just having a decent hand saw he actually likes using, not some cheap one. Ngl sometimes the old ways are just there waiting for you when the fancy stuff quits.

Yeah, that's the real lesson. It's not about ditching power tools, it's about respecting the hand tools. A sharp panel saw with a good handle isn't a punishment, it's a legit tool. My old crosscut saw saved me when my miter saw died right before trimming out a closet. Finished the job, didn't miss a deadline. Makes you realize how much we rely on outlets sometimes.

Wait, isn't a panel saw for long cuts, not trim?
