Shoutout to the guy at the hardware store who told me to switch to rechargeable batteries

I kept throwing away AA batteries from my weather station and outdoor sensors. Felt wasteful but didn't think about it much. Then some random dude in line at Ace in Denver last month said I was burning money and trashing the planet. Picked up a pack of Eneloops that same day. They've been running for 6 weeks now with no drop. Probably saved like 30 batteries already. Anyone else make that switch and notice a big difference?

Thirty batteries in six weeks" sounds about right, those little things add up fast.

Are you actually counting them out one by one? I mean I get that kids toys eat batteries like crazy but thirty in six weeks feels a bit high to me unless you've got a house full of those noisy light-up toys. Maybe it's just the brands you're buying, I've had some cheap batteries die in like a week while name brands last way longer. Or maybe the issue is the devices themselves, some of those toys drain batteries even when they're turned off. Just my two cents, seems like the math might be a little off.

@henrycooper yeah you're spot on with that. I had the exact same issue with my TV remotes and kids toys. What really helped me was getting a small rechargeable battery set with a simple charger. I grabbed a pack of eight AA and eight AAA from Amazon for like 25 bucks and they've lasted way longer than any disposables I've ever used. Plus you just rotate them out instead of constantly buying new ones. Have you ever tried switching to rechargeables or are you sticking with the throwaways?
