Serious question, is the whole 'AI friend' thing on socials just a weird fad or are we actually gonna talk to bots forever now?

I got stuck in a 3-hour loop with one of those 'AI companion' apps last Tuesday because it kept asking me to define 'sarcasm' and then misunderstanding every example I gave, which honestly felt like a glimpse into a very lonely future.
